Kanozersky Nature Reserve is located in the south of the Kola Peninsula, in the Terek and Kirov regions. State Reserve stretches between the lakes and Munozero Kanozero. Its a huge area (more than 656 square kilometers), includes the entire territory between two lakes, including the adjacent rivers, lakes, streams and forests. The reserve was established in 1989 in order to preserve rare animals.

Its activities also include scientific research, maintaining the ecological balance and activities on wildlife protection. In the protected area it is prohibited hunting, fishing and gathering. Tourism here is only allowed with the consent of the administration.

Protected inhabitants of the protected zone are: grouse, partridge, reindeer, muskrat, mink, brown bear. Here taiga forests grow, mostly pine and spruce. A significant part of the reserve occupy marshy areas.
