Museum of the History of OJSC “Murmansk Shipping Company” was opened in 1977. Today, it is deservedly called the Museum of the Northern Sea Route. During this time, the museum has accumulated unique photographs, compiled a portrait gallery of polar captains, marine equipment, ship’s bell, a model of a nuclear reactor, stuffed penguins, etc.

Currently, three rooms open at the Museum:

• “The history of the development of icebreaking and transport fleet”
• “Ships and the people of the nuclear fleet”
• “Diorama of the Arctic”
• “Tankers Shipping Co.”

At the permanent exhibition “From” Ermak “to a nuclear-powered icebreakers” presents photographs, models of icebreakers and transport vessels Company.

Admirable unique small collection of microscopic models. The smallest model of the exhibition length
only 14 centimeters – is a model of the steamer “Vologda”.

Huge interest for the audience is the diorama “Development
Northern Sea Route “, where if these seem worthwhile for unloading the ship, sailors figures on fast ice, aurora, etc.

The museum is an exhibition dedicated to the Arctic environment.

A significant part of the exhibition tells about the participation of sailors
Shipping in the northern convoys.

Within the walls of the museum every month for five years are going to members of the organization “Association of Arctic explorers.” Every year there are meetings with veterans of the Great Patriotic War, participants of polar convoys.
