Naval Museum of the Northern Fleet (breech Federal State Institution of Culture and Art “Northern Fleet Naval Museum” of the Russian Federation Ministry of Defence) – Military History Museum, located in Murmansk.
Naval Museum of the Northern Fleet was opened October 16, 1946 in the building of the House of officers of the city of Murmansk. The first exposition of “Defense of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War 1941 year – 1945” was opened.
On the basis of the museum held a scientific and publishing activities, which resulted in more than 60 years, it was released about 150 publications on the history of the Northern Fleet.
More than 30 times of the museum work was recognized as the best in the museum network of the country, the Armed Forces and the Navy.
Currently, the museum contains materials relating to the history of the development of nuclear submarines, surface ships and naval aviation, as well as the whole of the Northern Fleet as a whole. The exhibits covered the period from 1693 to the present.
The museum funds contain about 65 thousand items, are an important part of the marine heritage of Russia. They include models of ships, items of arms, flags and banners, personal belongings, awards, documents and photographs of the sailors, cards and works of art covering the history of the creation and evolution of Russia’s Northern Fleet.
