Traditional Saami National Games

September 9, 2017  in the settlement Loparskaia will be one of the most vivid and significant events in the Kola district – the 21st traditional Saami National Games.

The purpose of the celebration is the revival, development and popularization of the distinctive culture, national traditions and art crafts of the indigenous minorities of the North.

12.00 – opening of the holiday on the site near the Lopar Village House of Culture;

13.00 – the beginning of personal sports competitions and a concert program;

14.30 – the beginning of team sports, summing up;

15.30 – awarding of winners, solemn closing.

The basis of the holiday is traditionally composed of national games and competitions: throwing nyartola (arkan) on the trochee, shooting from the crossbow, jumping over the sledge and catching fish “on the bank,” female Sami football.

The best choreographic and vocal groups of the Kola district will present their performances to the guests.

During the games everyone can taste the Lappish national dishes.
