Theatre organized by February 1, 1939, but not yet in 3 years earlier in 1936 opened a branch of the Bolshoi Drama Theater named after M. Gorky, on the basis of which the Murmansk theater was opened. It was headed by the artistic director of the theater – SA Morschihin and chief director of AV Shubin. The first performance was the “Consul General” in which the role of Sharafutdinova was busy V.D.Lukin. During the Great Patriotic War the theater has performed with the anti-fascist program in the forefront. For a long time the theater did not have its own building – the performances were in the Palace of Culture of fishermen (now the Palace of Culture and Science Kirov.). In 1963, the theater moved to a new location – in its own building on the main avenue. Theatre toured the regions of the country and northern Europe.

The theater takes an active part in the national festivals, organizes tours to Russian cities.
