In 1971, for the successes “achieved by the working people of the city in carrying out tasks for the development of industrial production”, the city was awarded the Order of Red Banner of Labor. In 1982, for the courage and resilience shown by the residents in the fight against the German invaders during World War II, the progress made in economic and cultural construction, the city was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War I level. In 1985, for outstanding achievements in the Great Patriotic War in Murmansk was awarded the title “Hero City” with the award of the highest award of the Soviet Union Order of Lenin and medal “Gold Star”.
