September 27, 2003 ceremony, which was dedicated to the discovery of the bust of Ivan Papanin took place. ID Papanin – twice Hero of the Soviet Union, an honorary citizen of the city of Murmansk. He is also a doctor of geographical sciences, Chevalier of the nine orders of Lenin, Rear Admiral. Papanin is widely known as the author of works of “Ice and Fire” and “Life on the ice.” The bust is set at the intersection of Karl Marx and Papanin. He is cast from metal pedestal made of natural stone called hibino.
On the Taimyr Peninsula cape is named after Papanin. Also, his name was given to the mountain in Antarctica and seamount located in the Pacific Ocean .
